PRESS STATEMENT

The South Sudan Patriotic Movement (SSPM) wishes to clarify recent statements issued by an individual, Agany Abdelbagi Akol, who claims to be the commander of the SSPM Army forces.

The SSPM categorically states that Agany Abdelbagi Akol does not represent the Movement in any capacity. His statements do not reflect the policies, positions, or institutional structures of the SSPM and therefore carry no political, legal, or organizational authority.

The Movement reiterates that on 18 January 2019, Agany Abdelbagi publicly defected, together with his bodyguards to South Sudan people’s Defence Forces (SSPDF). From that date onward, all organizational and military ties between him and the SSPM Army were permanently and irrevocably severed.

The SSPM further confirms that it issued a binding decision on 23 September 2019 dismissing the Chief of Staff of the SSPM Army. This decision was followed by an unlawful attempt by Agany Abdelbagi to assume the position of deputy chairman without legal, constitutional, or institutional mandate. He subsequently joined the SSPDF.

The movement also notes that Agany Abdelbagi wasn’t present in any officially recognised SSPM Cantonment Area and training centres, including Pantit, Masana beera( Factory), Mapel, Agutmakur, Rejaf police training center and Goram. designated for the training of VIP Protection Forces. His name does not appear in the Movement’s approved military rosters.

In light of these facts, the SSPM emphasizes that all claims and statements issued by Agany Abdelbagi are baseless and have no effect within the structures of the South Sudan Patriotic Movement.

The SSPM further confirms that the former Chief of Staff of its SSPM Army was General Garang Ayii, prior to his lawful appointment as Deputy Chief of the General Staff for Logistics.

Finally, the SSPM bears no responsibility for any actions undertaken by Agany Abdelbagi since his departure from the Movement. Documented evidence confirms his entry into the SSPDF with the rank of Lieutenant General and his subsequent absorption at the rank of Brigadier General in 2019, conclusively ending any association with the SSPM.
