Speaking to the press on Thursday, the State Minister of Information and Communication, Hon. Gabriel Deng Yel, said that the resolution followed a memorandum presented by the governor concerning the appointment of Director Generals across the ministries.

Yel explained that the council reaffirmed an earlier policy introduced by former governor Simon Ober Mawut, which states that the governor has the sole authority to appoint Director Generals in the state ministries.

“The council revisited the previous decision made by the former governor that Director Generals should be appointed by the governor rather than by ministers,” Yel said.

He added that under the new resolution, ministers will no longer nominate Director Generals, as the authority to appoint them will rest entirely with the governor.

According to Yel, the matter was raised by Director Generals themselves during the governor’s recent tour of 17 ministries and independent commissions in the state.

In the security situation, Yel said that conditions in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State remain relatively stable and peaceful.

He noted that the state government has launched night patrol operations by joint security forces targeting areas where some youth have been involved in criminal activities during late hours.

He further stated that the government, under the leadership of Governor Charles Madut Akol, is prioritizing service delivery to citizens, particularly in the sectors of health, education, and road network connectivity.
