PRESS RELEASE

SSPM DENIES CLAIM OF NEW MILITARY POSITION, WARNS AGAINST IMPERSONATION

The South Sudan Patriotic Movement (SSPM) unequivocally affirms that, since its founding, there has never existed a position of Deputy Chief of Staff, nor any so-called Leadership Council, within the organizational or command structures of the South Sudan Patriotic Army (SSPA). Any claims to the contrary particularly those advanced by an individual known as Deng Mayar are entirely false, misleading, and devoid of any basis within the Movement’s constitutional or organizational framework.

The Movement further clarifies that the said individual holds the rank of Captain only and remains on the waiting list, having not been officially approved due to his absence from the security arrangements and cantonment processes. He holds no leadership, command, or organizational authority within the SSPM. Furthermore, he was not part of the security arrangements mechanisms, is not listed among the representatives of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance forces within those mechanisms, and does not appear in the official SSPM/A records submitted to the Presidency of the Republic. Consequently, he possesses no legal, political, or organizational mandate to speak or act on behalf of the Movement.

The SSPM strongly warns that any impersonation, misrepresentation, or unauthorized use of the Movement’s name or structures constitutes a serious legal violation and a clear usurpation of authority. Such actions will be met with full legal and organizational accountability, without exception.

The Movement reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the 2018 Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS), particularly the unification of armed forces under the agreed security arrangements. It categorically rejects any form of military activity, mobilization, or recruitment conducted outside these established frameworks, as such actions pose a direct threat to national security, peace, and stability.

Finally, the SSPM confirms that it reserves the full right to take all necessary legal and organizational measures to protect its legitimacy, safeguard its institutions, and preserve the unity and discipline of its ranks.
