Presidential Advisor told residents to eat frogs and snakes as they complain of hunger

The senior presidential advisor, Kuol Manyang, has advised residents in Twic East County to embark on agriculture to fight hunger. Manyang made his call during his visit to the county amidst displacement due to ongoing conflict.

However, jokingly, the advisor told residents to follow the Biblical call that placed man over all creatures, citing that they can survive on available creatures. The advisor urged the residents to team up and cultivate, and he jokingly advised them that a man can also survive on frogs and snakes.

“Why do you die of hunger while there are frogs? Why don’t you eat? There is also snake; they cannot poison people; the Chinese do eat them. Even the dog is there; why don’t you eat? Even grasshoppers are there,” Manyang said. He made the statement following complaints from some of the leaders of Twic East County as hunger and flood hit the area.

However, this statement went viral on social media with others criticizing his speech, as they viewed it as mockery of the flood-affected people of Twic East County.
