Former Deputy CDF forms rebel movement against Kiir’s regime

Gen. Wilson Deng (Weks) Kuoirot, the former Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) and former Ambassador of South Sudan to the Republic of South Africa, has announced the formation of a new rebel movement known as the National Uprising Movement/Army (NUM/A).

According to Deng, the movement was established with the stated aim of bringing political change in South Sudan. He accused the government of President Salva Kiir of failing to govern the country effectively, citing what he described as continued mismanagement and lack of meaningful reform.

Deng said the creation of the National Uprising Movement/Army is driven by the need for a new direction in leadership, adding that the current administration has exhausted its mandate to lead the nation toward peace, stability, and development.
