Devastating blaze destroys 25 shops in Galguk market, Maiwut County.
At least 25 shops were destroyed by fire in Galguk Boma, Mathiang Payam, Maiwut County, in the eastern part of Upper Nile State. The fire reportedly broke out at around 3:00 a.m. on Monday morning, causing serious losses to traders.
The affected shops were owned by both South Sudanese and Sudanese traders. The incident left many business owners in shock after losing their properties and goods.
Speaking to Aweil News Agency, an eyewitness, Chan Monyjok, a resident of Galguk, said the fire started unexpectedly, leaving people unprepared to rescue their belongings.
“This morning, Galguk market was completely reduced to ashes. All the shops were burned down, and we do not yet know the cause of the fire,” Chan Monyjok said.
Efforts to reach local authorities in Galguk for more information were unsuccessful.
